How to develop self discipline.
|
Would you like to get hold of the power to stick to your decisions? Not to quit and follow them through?
Self-discipline is of uttermost importance in our daily life. Failure to control yourself may have self damaging consequences like obesity, bankruptcy, losing your job etch. How many times did it happen that you could not follow through with a lifestyle change you planned to make? And what about the times you got excited about your new year resolution, to only give up after a month at most? This happened to all of us.
Would you like to get hold of the power to stick to your decisions? Not to quit and follow them through?
Have freedom from laziness and doubt. Be master of your thoughts and emotions. We can blame our circumstances, or perhaps someone else. But deep on the inside, we know what the real problem is.. to put it simply, a lack of discipline. Discipline sets the successful apart from those who quit when they fail. It gives you the ability to stand up in the morning, and even if you feel tired, to put full effort in your work. Discipline helps you to persevere even if the outcome seems bleak. No personal success can be achieved without self-discipline.
What is self-discipline? Self-discipline is the most important skill everyone should possess in each area of life. But few truly understand. Self-discipline means to have self control under all circumstances in life. It does not mean being harsh to yourself. And does not mean living a restrictive lifestyle or giving up the things you enjoy. It means you will pull trough with your decisions until accomplished. It comprises an inner strength that makes it possible for you to overcome addictions and bad habits. An inner control over one's desires and behavior.
With the skill of self discipline you will be able to:
•Set a stop to procrastination.
•Resist temptation and stop acting on impulse. Thus turn down instant gratification.
•Fulfill the things you have promised to yourself and others.
•Pull trough with your tasks until the goal is achieved.
•Overcome your bad habits.
•Take the actions to execute your plan regardless of the difficulties you face.
•Focus your mind on your goals until they are accomplished.
•Maintain a higher tolerance for negative emotions.
•Get a better lifestyle, finances and health.

Focus on the positive. Write in your journal every time you face a challenge. Write every thought. Get it out of your head, separate it from you. Ourselves are often the biggest barrier to prevent our success, saying to ourselves 'I can never do that'. Overcoming this block (or challenge) is the first step on your way to success. Set goals and commit to what you have planned.
“Overcoming what frightens you the most strengthens you the most.”― Matshona Dhliwayo
Try the following method to overcome any challenge:
Identify the challenge. - Challenges can be overcome, but first you have to identify it. State the problem. Be exact as possible.
Think of solutions. - As many solutions as possible. Write it down. Look at what resources you have to help. (personal skills, other people, books, computer and so on) design a strategy inline with the recourses you have. Be humble enough to ask for help if needed
Implement your designed strategy with effort and enthusiasm. Be committed to make it work.
Practice to get better. - You should want to have room for improvement. Work with effort and determination.
Failure is not final. - Every successful person, in their life has tried something and failed. See failure as stepping stones to eventual success.
Personal reflection. - Stop and decide if you are making progress. Check on your goals. Change your strategy if needed, improve it and try new ways. Stay persistent and implement it.
Live at the moment. - Do not be distracted by worrying about the possible outcome or regretting mistakes you made in the past. Be focused on the current moment, and not on the outcome. Face your problems with your full presence and awareness.
Be committed. - Challenges are difficult and will take time and energy to overcome. Stick to it and work hard. This is the way to reach your goals. Never give up.

The overcoming of challenges are such an important step which are in so many cases overlooked as people are looking for a way around the problem instead of facing it. This is true of small challenges like cleaning the floors and big ones like finding a new job. Putting a challenge off will never make it go away. Rather face it head on.
• Put your bodily health first. All other aspects of our lives are foremost linked to how healthy our body is. If you are healthy and strong, you will have the energy to work hard and to think more out of the box.
• Make sure you take part in continuous self-improvement. Be willing to seek lifelong education. Successful people never stop learning, be open to grasp new information wherever you go.
• Associate with people who cultivate to be successful themselves. It is a fact you become like those with whom you relate to.
• Live minimalistic. Do not overspend on material possessions. The glamor of the new car will soon be over. Remember that you are not defined by the “things” you own. Rather spend your time and effort on your true-life values and the rest will fall into place.
• Remain respectful and humble. Let go of your ego as this is the origin of a negative downward spiral. Your success can disappear. Rather be unpretentious, cultivating the desire to continue serving for a greater cause.

Personal energy - the fuel you need to function at your best. When we live our life to the fullest one of the best advancements, we can have is plenty of personal energy. This energy is your capacity to work. It provides the fuel that enables you to be ready to take on anything. Energy is the opposite of the scenario where all your energy has been extracted from your body. With adequate energy levels, you can be better and faster, you can be more focused and healthier, and it will enable you to function at your best.
Why does some people get it right to make life enhancing lifestyle changes while others rather stick to their bad habits?
#HabitsThatStick
If you tried and failed, it does not mean you will fail again. You need to realize that breaking a bad habit needs ongoing effort from you. It will not be accomplished overnight. Changing bad habits will require a daily commitment from you. Work hard, but forgive yourself for failures.

These simple tested strategies might help you to make the changes needed to get rid of your bad habits. Before doing anything else, you have to first prepare yourself for the planned habit change. Make sure you do not change over one habit at once as each one will require a great amount of willpower from you. You need to be 100% committed otherwise you will fail. Set a start date, and a finish goal. For example 30 days. (Some habits may take longer than 30 days to break, use your time and set 45 or 90 days)

Be specific about the actions you must take to end the specific habit. Do not just say "I will drink less soda." How much less? You will have to decide what you will change and how, to make that happen. You need to have a plan of what you will do instead of the bad habit. The more detailed you are, the more likely you are to succeed.
Succeeding will not be smooth sailing. Be realistic about what it will take from you to get rid of this habit and put in the effort to succeed. Expect to work hard and you will not give up.
Become mindful about what bad habit you are doing and why? Try to understand why this habit is bad for you. Chances are you will become less interested in doing them. If you pick a not a good reason to change, you are most likely to fail. Try to find the true underlying reason you do this habit and the real reason you should stop. The stronger your reason, the more likely you will stick to it.

Stay Positive. The moment you realize that you are busy doing the bad habit, think about the commitment you have made to yourself to stick to your plan.
• Decide to go all the way, NOW is the time to start.
• Be positive. Positivity leads to productivity and success. Negativity will hold you back.
• Create a list of goals. Motivation always requires goals. Define your goals and break them down into smaller realistic portions. Organize your set goals. Many times one goal needs to be accomplished before it makes sense to begin another goal.
• Makes an action list. Identify the first two or three most important goals and create a to-do list of daily tasks or objectives that will help you to accomplish them.
• Cross off your list. To stay motivated, keep a written list of your daily tasks and cross each out as you complete them.
• Treat yourself whenever you complete something on your to-do list.
• Find inspiration. Read blogs, magazines or websites of others who have achieved what you want to achieve, and get excited over your goal. Print out your goal in big words and paste it to the fridge. This will keep your attention on it.
