Stop procrastination, laziness, and indecisiveness

Picture

Stop procrastination, laziness, and indecisiveness

Just as self-discipline is a habit, PROCRASTINATION is also a habit. If you want to become successful, you have to learn to do the tasks that need to be done. You need to see the bigger picture about your planned future achievements. You need to have a long-term plan. Procrastinating can develop into a habit that prevents you from ever doing anything important and meaningful. It's important, as with all other bad habits, to set an action plan. Make sure it is set within a time frame. Only you can take on the responsibilities of reaching your goals.

Tips for Breaking the Procrastination Habit:

•Recognize that you have an illogical fear and deal with it. Procrastination is, most of the time, driven by fear. What are you afraid of? If you are unsure of yourself, are not sure what to do, or you fear failure, you might choose procrastination over taking action. Have a positive outlook rather than fear. Learn to take control over your life and manage your time.
•Stay accountable. Make sure you stay productive. Partake in ongoing personal growth. Ask someone to test you to suggest ways in which you can increase productivity to become more efficient.
•Drop the victim mentality. Do not blame others or circumstances for your problems. Realize that although much of life is out of your control, you can choose how to react.
•Build self-confidence to deal with things without your control.
•Consider outsourcing some of the tasks you are not good at. Focus on those you are good at and love to do.
•Set priorities. You need not do everything right now. Write a task list, break all the tasks down, and do the most important first. Get rid of distractions and work through your tasks one at a time.
•Do not forget to reward yourself after certain goals are met. This increases motivation and confidence.
•Set goals that truly motivate you.
•Surround yourself with doers. Avoid negative people as they will only pull you down.
•Restrict interruptions. Set time aside to deal with emails, your phone, and personal visits. Keep your concentration on the task at hand until it is finished

Laziness. It is the desire of passivity, to do nothing and put in no or little effort into things. To be productive and achieve success, laziness and procrastination should be overcome.
To overcome laziness, you will first have to make a choice to act. Choose not to be passive anymore.

Here are some ideas to overcome laziness:
•Tasks should be broken down into smaller, realistic tasks. It will then be easier for you to do it, as they will not appear to be so overwhelming. A series of smaller tasks seems to be much more achievable.
•Know where you are going. Visualize what you want to be or where you want to reach. Reflect on these goals frequently. Think about the life you want to live. Think about what could happen if you are lazy and don't perform your tasks. This might motivate you.
•Do not multi-task. Too many tasks could overwhelm you, leading to procrastination.
•Do you get enough sleep? Laziness can also be due to tiredness—as a result of too little sleep—causing your energy reserves to drop. Make sure that you sleep enough and get enough exercise.

Indecisiveness. In the Bible (James 1:8), we read that a double-minded man is unstable in all he does. Indecision means you have difficulty in deciding. Decide to be decisive. To stop postponing life's decisions. Eliminate uncertainty and turn “maybe” into a “yes” or “no.” Decisiveness reduces procrastination and increases productivity and self-confidence.

Tips to be more decisive:
- Declutter your house and your life. People mostly build up clutter because of indecision. Become minimalistic. There are numerous good books available on minimalism.
- Keep your to-do list up to date. Scratch out items you are finished with. Keep it clean and well defined.
- Sort out all the unresolved matters in your life. Get it done and over with.
- Get hold of a Self discipline workbook to help you achieving your goals.
- Make sure all your goals and smaller tasks are well defined. It will be easier for you to get off the line and get them done with—without hesitation—as clear steps are set.

Time Management

Time management is a very important habit that very much determines the quality and outcome of your life. Time management can also be called life management or personal management. You cannot replace time, but you can make a choice to spend it differently. You can spend it on important stuff rather than on areas of low value. To do this, you have to develop effective strategies to manage your time. Time management skills are valuable in all areas of life.

Which skills will you need to manage your time? To name a few, you should be able to set goals, to break them into smaller steps and regularly test your progress. You should be able to prioritize and organize your schedule and pull through when things are not going your way. Time management is the planning and balancing of the tasks and responsibilities of the day.

Look at the following tips and find what works best for you:

  • Make a to-do list with deadlines and stick to it. Prioritize the most important tasks and those with deadlines. Cross out completed ones. This way, you will note your progress.
  • Set realistic deadlines for your goals. Plan your time wisely and make sure there is enough time for everything that needs to be done.
  • Take regular breaks throughout the day; you will return more productive afterward.
  • Do not multi-task. This divides your attention. Rather, give your full attention to one thing until finished.
  • Delegate some responsibilities. This will help us to feel less stressed. Everything can not be completed by one person; sometimes more people are needed.
  • When you accomplished a task, you should reward yourself. Celebrate it!
  • Learn to say no when you mean it. There are many people who have a problem saying “no.” Understand your priorities. Realize that your time is valuable, and it is OK to say no.

Do you want to know how to gain self confidence? Here are some WAYS TO BUILD YOUR SELF CONFIDENCE:

1. Smilе
This might ѕоund ѕillу but you don't smile if уоu'rе feeling unhарру оr nеrvоuѕ. Thе ѕimрlе асt оf smiling, еvеn if you hаvе tо force it аt first, will make you fееl bеttеr. A smile is ѕоmеthing everyone аѕѕосiаtеѕ with роѕitivе fееlingѕ, so bу ѕmiling you mаkе уоurѕеlf fееl bеttеr, уоu will арреаr confident, other реорlе will nоtiсе and thеу tоо will feel lеѕѕ nervous аnd more confident. Bеfоrе уоu knоw it you will fit right intо thе situation that уоu wеrе nеrvоuѕ or lacking in соnfidеnсе аbоut.

2. Good Pоѕturе
How you саrrу уоurѕеlf tеllѕ a lot аbоut you. If уоu ѕlоuсh оr walk around with уоur shoulders ѕlumреd forward with уоur hеаd down, уоu dоn't givе off аnу fееlingѕ of соnfidеnсе tо уоurѕеlf or аnуоnе еlѕе. So аlwауѕ ѕtаnd up ѕtrаight, with your hеаd up аnd mаkе еуе contact with еvеrуоnе уоu mееt. Thiѕ will mаkе a positive impression оn those you meet which will reflect back оn уоu making уоu feel more confident.

3. Be Grаtеful
When уоu thing аbоut whаt уоu wаnt, уоur mind соmеѕ uр with reasons why уоu саn't have it е.g. уоu don't have thе money, уоu dоn't dеѕеrvе it, you dоn't nееd it. Thiѕ lеаdѕ you tо think about lack and bringѕ оn more negative thinking whiсh dоеѕ nоthing fоr self-confidence. The best thing to do iѕ to fосuѕ on what уоu hаvе аnd bе grаtеful for it. Keep a gratitude journal as it is something уоu ѕhоuld dо dаilу аnd уоu ѕhоuld gо through a list оf thingѕ уоu are grаtеful for. Think about thе friеndѕ уоu hаvе, good thingѕ you hаvе dоnе in the past, аnу skills уоu mау hаvе, gооd rеlаtiоnѕhiрѕ уоu have оr had. This will bring about роѕitivе thoughts and when you аrе having predominantly positive thоughtѕ уоu fееl better, mоrе motivated and dеfinitеlу mоrе ѕеlf-соnfidеnt.

HOW TO LOVE YOURSELF.

4. Aрреаrаnсе
I dоn't know about you but I know when I'm wеаring tаttу оld clothes (we've аll gоt that раrt оf jеаnѕ аnd ѕhirt соvеrеd in раint with hоlеѕ in that wе use fоr оdd jоbѕ аrоund thе hоuѕе) I don't fееl thаt gооd. I look аt myself and think 'уоu lооk a mеѕѕ' аnd thеn I don't fееl thаt grеаt either.
Nоthing bеаtѕ gеtting out of thе оld сlоthеѕ, having a shower аnd a shave аnd getting into ѕоmеthing сlеаn аnd tidу looking. Thе improvement tо уоur соnfidеnсе iѕ amazing. 10 Ways to feel better about how you look.

5. Say Something
Nоw strange as it mау ѕееm, if уоu are with a grоuр of people уоu hаvе just mеt, оnе оf thе bеѕt wауѕ to hеlр inсrеаѕе уоur confidence is асtuаllу tо ѕау something. Yоu'll ԛuitе likеlу find that other реорlе in thе group are juѕt as nervous about ѕреаking as well. If you mаkе thе еffоrt tо ѕреаk, even оnсе, within a grоuр you'll become bеttеr at ѕреаking in рubliс аnd bесоmе mоrе confident.
So thеrе you hаvе 5 pretty еаѕу wауѕ that you can uѕе to help build up уоur ѕеlf-соnfidеnсе. Aѕ with аll things it takes a bit of реrѕеvеrаnсе, but even if all you dо iѕ smile аnd ѕtаnd uр straight thаt iѕ a gооd start to dеvеlорing уоur соnfidеnсе.

Working at home in style - Organization Ideas

Over the years, I’ve tried it all, different ways to get organized, with much trial and error. Some worked, some didn’t. I tried some of those fancy looking matching desk sets. They looked beautiful and for some, I’m sure they are perfect. But for me, they took up too much valuable space. Space I needed to proof my work, keep my reference books, or keep those essentials that I use on a regular basis. For me, when I work I want everything within an arms reach. I want to have immediate access to the tools I need to complete my assignments.

I have a corner desk, and on it I have my computer, printer, fax, phone, etc. Beside my desk I have a two-drawer filing cabinet. This was possibly the greatest thing I’ve ever done to organize my business. In it I have my files and supplies that I use on a regular basis, such as, client stationery, client files, a file for my receipts, all personal correspondence, paper, folders, etc. Whenever these files get bulky with client documents, I simply empty them into the main filing cabinet. For example, my main clients, whom I’ve been working with for 20 years, their files in the main cabinet are quite large. It’s nice to have the smaller file close by with just their recent correspondence. Plus, when I need a folder, an order slip for my books, a copy of my stationery, it’s all right there. AAAHHH, now that’s convenience.

Now for the receipts’ file. I keep it monthly. At the beginning of the month, I simply replace the file with the new month’s file. That way, at tax time, I don’t have to go through a whole year’s receipts and divide it up. It’s already separated.

Here are some other organizational tips you might find beneficial:

  • Mail—We have a round basket by a small table by the front door. All incoming mail goes in there first. Then when I have the opportunity to sort through it, I get it and put it in its appropriate place. Always pitch anything you aren’t keeping. All business-related mail is sorted and put away immediately. Anything that might need work done on it is logged into my Daytimer and then put in the To Do Bin.
  • Desk—Your desk should have on it only those items that you use on a regular basis. Look around. What haven’t you used in the last month or two? Start dumping. Find another spot for it. But find the RIGHT spot for it.
  • FIVER is an online marketplace that offers a variety of services, make use of some of these to take some time consuming tasks out of your hands.
  • No Piling of Anything Allowed. This is one of those habits that can be so easy to get into. Definitely one that I catch myself doing a lot! But I stop myself now because I know it will just be brushed off to the side and forgotten. Too often I miss something important and regret the piling blunder again. You will be amazed how much more organized you will feel if you just don’t do this one thing. And time yourself. You think you are too busy, but it takes seconds and how long does it take to look for that missing document.
  • Daytimer—Now this isn’t only for Time Management. Your Daytimer can have a space for all your business cards, appointment cards, etc. How great it is to have all these cards right in the same place. On the date of your appointment, you simply grab the card and off you go. Also, recently I’ve started using the Outlook Express to log in appointments as well. It has a calendar and I can look to it to get a feel for the day and the week to follow.
  • Three-ring Binders – I saved my best for last. I do a lot of research in doing publicity for clients and also have a lot of e-mails that I need to print and save. I use paper that already has the wholes punched for insertion into a 3 ring binder. I will print out important research, client e-mails I need to save, work that I’ve done so I can review it later, etc., on this paper and then put it into the proper binders. I have a binder for all clients, research, PR, myself, and miscellaneous. You would be amazed how clearer things are in a binder than tossed in a file cabinet. For my business it works tremendously.
  • Start the beginning of the day and the end of the day with a clean-up. What a tremendous feeling that is. When you are done with a project, away it goes. When you start the next project, out comes all the material you need.

There’s nothing like the feeling of sitting down in the morning to a nice clean organized desk and office. Once you feel this a couple of days, you want to experience this every day so you’ll take the appropriate steps to make it happen.

Organizing the content of your life based on your needs is a best practice for managing your time, resources and money and is an essential first step if you are to fully achieve your potential in life. The reasons for this are simple. An organized clear mind leads to clear and objective goals, which in turn leads to you being able to achieve what you set out to do.

A critical first step then in staying organized is to set up a system of resource planning and clerical needs (a Business planning Kit) that allows you to plan out your time effectively, and allocate where you are going to spend it. In short this means such steps as getting a day planner so that you can plan ahead. Getting appropriate stationary systems and office space in place, and also getting yourself a filing cabinet, or at the very least some kind of filing system!

It would certainly be true to say that staying organized then is not something that lots of people do naturally! At first it can even seem slightly stifling, especially if you are used to totally going with the flow of what each day brings. In truth this is ok. It IS good to be spontaneous on occasions, but in general it is vital to plan out what you need to do in a particular time frame, because otherwise it is all to easy to simply become distracted! Keep Calm & Stay Organized Modern Trendy Abstract File Folder
by moodthology
All of us know this to be true if we think about it from the viewpoint of our own lives. For example, when we surf the web we find ourselves flitting between sites, and before you know it a couple of hours have past! Now, don't get me wrong. That is one of the joys of the internet, and of life in General. But it is
nevertheless a time stealer that staying focused and staying organised could have helped to negate.

So then am I saying that Staying Organized should mean robbing you of the juice of life? Robbing you of the spontaneity? NO! No! NO! For me the exact opposite is true. Staying organized is about finishing the day's tasks and having crammed far more good stuff in! In short it is the exact opposite of a spoil sport! ;)

You should know your own strengths and weaknesses when it comes to this area (clue... Staying organized means doing more of the things you like!) and communicate them to yourself regularly to analyze that your wants and needs are being met effectively. Then organize your time based on that feedback.

Keep with the program. Stay Organized, and Organize YOUR Life For Success!

FUNDAMENTAL KEYS OF SELF DISCIPLINE:

Commitment means to be dedicated to a specific cause. To take full ownership for what you want to achieve. Without commitment, self-discipline towards goal achievement is not possible. Once you have committed yourself to something, you will do it without hesitation. But if you are not committed to the outcome, you will battle to keep going and achieve your goal. This is significant, as we need to examine our commitment towards a specific goal first—as self-discipline is not possible without having commitment first. When you feel discouraged, it is of uttermost importance to have the commitment to keep your motivation going. This is where commitment can make the difference between succeeding or not going anywhere.

Commitment

Here are a few tips on commitment.

  • Success starts with the right mindset. Make the decision that nothing's going to hold you back. Be positive and prevent negative thinking. Dedication is a very powerful tool, as the right mindset brings motivation.
  • Be clear about your goals and the outcome you want. What do you want? How are you going to reach this goal? In which time frame should you reach it? You should be so clear you can envision every piece of detail in your mind.
  • Do not focus on anything that is of lesser importance. Do not do unnecessary work, as this will steal too much time and guide you off track. Focus on what really matters and needs to be done. Be specific and outcome-orientated in all you do.
  • Take ownership. Keep track of your important tasks by looking at your goals and the tasks completed on a daily basis.
  • Surround yourself with positive and like-minded people.

The greatest challenges many of us have to face, is how to be patient. Patience is defined as "the ability to continue doing something despite difficulties, without complaining or becoming annoyed."
http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/patience To put it another way, a person with patience will be too able to resist frustration without becoming upset. Patience makes you happier as it reduces stress levels and you will also feel more in control and be better at decision-making. All of these characteristics will enhance your self control.
  • Make to be patient your goal for an entire day. Be mindful and put in effort to think properly before deciding.
  • Slow down and relax. Do not get upset by long queues or slow traffic.
  • You can choose how you react in a situation. Make the choice to be patient.
  • Pinpoint the triggers that makes you impatient. Know of it. Put you in the other person's shoes.
  • Do not solely focus on the results, you should enjoy the journey too and have fun.
  • Second think everything before you speak or do anything. Practice gratification.
  • Listen patiently to other people and take time to plan your response.
  • Recognize that there always will be things out of your control. Do not waste energy on those.

The more you try to be patient, the easier it will be as patience is a muscle you develop.

a Positive Mindset.

Be Positive! Stay Positive! Postcard
Be Positive! Stay Positive! Postcard
by yesnoyesno

Positive thinking is an important skill you may use in building up your self-discipline. You need to control your thinking process to succeed and build self control.

If thinking negative things like "I can't do this" or " this is to difficult for me" you will not get any positive results. Rather condition your brain to think positive thoughts to overcome the negativity. Change the way you think by put in effort to change, tell yourself out aloud that you can and will. Take control and train your brain to think positive. Develop a positive attitude for life and expect to have a success.

Effective positive thinking is more than repeating positive words, or just telling yourself that it will be ok. It has to be your default attitude. Do not allow fear entering your mind. Much effort will be necessary.
