What is Self-Love? (PART ONE of a 5 Part Series)
There is a big difference between being selfish, or arrogant, and self-love. Many people confuse the two and may use it to manipulate you. Self-love is the most selfless gift you can give yourself - It’s your duty as a child of God to treat yourself with respect and love as your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. "You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So, glorify God in your body." (1 Corinthians 6:19 & 20)
In the British dictionary of definitions, self-love is described as "the instinct or tendency to seek one's own well-being or to further one's own interest." Do not confuse self-love with selfishness, which is defined as "concerned with one's own interest and advantage, especially to the total exclusion of the interests of others"
Loving yourself doesn’t make you selfish, instead, self-love means caring about oneself, being confident and taking responsibility for oneself, to embrace oneself, with all of our imperfections, flaws, and rejections. To put it in other words, self-love means to be respecting yourself, knowing who you are, and having high self-esteem. Self-love is the foundation on which everything else is built on, and it should be solid to be able to live a good life where things will fall into place.
